  • Ragging has serious impact on our young minds that lead to serious consequences like mental disorders and some even choose to end their lives. To prevent ragging, UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 are there for complete prohibition of ragging from educational institutions in the country. Government Degree College Bishnah also values the dignity of students and follow UGC regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009.

    Ragging" means the doing of any act which causes or is likely to cause any physical, psychological or physiological harm or apprehension or shame or embarrassment to a student and includes-


    (a) teasing or abusing or playing practical joke on, or causing hurt to any student

    (b) asking any student to do any act, or perform anything, which he/she would not, in the ordinary course, be willing to do or perform.

    Prohibition of Ragging:

    1. Ragging within an educational institution is strictly prohibited.
    2. No person shall participate in, abet or propagate, ragging in any educational institution.

    Penalty for Ragging:

    • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
    • Withholding/Withdrawing Scholarship/Fellowship and other benefits.
    • Debarring from appearing in any Test/Examination or other Evaluation process.
    • Withholding Results.
    • Debarring from representing the Institution in any regional, National or International Meet, Tournament, Youth Festival etc.
    • Suspension/Expulsion from the Hostel.
    • Rustication from the Institution for period ranging from one to four semesters.
    • Cancellation of Admission.
    • Expulsion from the Institution and consequent debarring from Admission to any other Institution for a specified period.

    Provided that where the persons committing or abetting the act of Ragging, are not identified, the University shall resort to collective punishment. Students in distress owing to ragging should approach the college Anti-Ragging committee or Principal or UGC Toll free Helpline number 1800-180-5522.
